About
I am a Professor and Academic Lead for Cybersecurity and Networking in the School of Computer Science and Information Technology at Adelaide University. I lead the Cyber-AI Research Group, which has one aim: securing organisations that run AI agents.
I currently serve as Theme Lead for Information Warfare and Advanced Cyber within the Defence Trailblazer program, a joint initiative between Adelaide University and UNSW that concludes in late 2026. My Defence Trailblazer activities have focused on translating cybersecurity research into capabilities developed with defence and industry partners.
My research develops provably robust methods for defending complex networked systems, and now the organisations that run AI agents inside them. My group maps where such organisations can be attacked, through the identities, permissions, documents, memories and metadata their agents share; watches how misbehaviour spreads across fleets of agents; and tests whether a model’s internals can be trusted. Active Directory attack graphs, where our algorithmic defence work began, remain the base we build on. Every result ships as a generator, a dataset or a detector before it ships as a paper.
I serve as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Artificial Intelligence and Elsevier Ad Hoc Networks. I am a member of the Technical Program Committees for leading international conferences on AI and cybersecurity, including AAMAS 2026 (CORE A*), AAAI 2026 (CORE A*), The Web Conference 2026 (CORE A*), and IJCAI 2026 (CORE A*).
Recent updates
- 2026 — Published research on metagraph algorithms, directed hypergraphs, robust multi-agent planning, human-aware Active Directory defence, and CAN/CAN FD simulation.
- 2026 — Completed the Resilient Platform Interfaces research project with Cisco and Defence Trailblazer, developing edge-AI cybersecurity capabilities for OT/IT environments.
- Research opportunities — PhD, MPhil and summer research projects are available in AI agent security, autonomous cyber defence, and enterprise network security. Prospective students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, independence, and strong personal agency should email a CV with a list of publications, academic records and a brief statement of research interests.
